Why Health is So Important in Tough Financial Times

The country is going through some of the most challenging financial times we have seen in decades and it is certainly being felt everywhere. The fitness industry is certainly not immune. It is extremely important for all of us, however, to take care of our bodies and to prevent costly health issues that could put a strain on our already tight budgets. Major medical issues are costly to everyone.

I talk to a lot of people that are struggling to make ends meet. This is not a time, however, to stop exercising, cancel your gym membership and forget that your health is the most important investment you will ever make. You can make changes to your expenses while maintaining preventative health alternatives. You can take a walk everyday instead of going out to lunch. You can ask a friend to work out with you and split the cost of a session. You can eat meals at home and invest the savings into a gym membership. It is important to remember that if you are unhealthy it is more difficult to be motivated to find a job or to even think clearly in times of struggle. Exercise has the benefits of not only assisting you in being physically healthy but also in providing mental clarity and giving you an outlet for stress.

Stress is a part of life. Stress, however, over time can have negative effects on the body such as the deterioration of the central nervous system, disease and cardiac complications related to elevated blood pressure. Exercise helps to counter these harmful stress hormones and provides the body with a release mechanism to help the body to come back to a neutral state.

If over time, your body is subjected to high levels of stress, non-nutritious foods and a lack of exercise, your body will respond in a negative way. It is clear that a pattern of repeated abuse will result in illness and possibly permanently change your health forever. At that point, it is too late to make changes. The damage is already done.

However, if you continue to put your efforts into your health, there is a 100% guarantee that the results will be positive and will repay you for a lifetime to come. The best investment is in your health so take care of yourself and those you love.
